Sony actually likes the free 2 play concept. EA is another story.

Financial troubles = Auto Assault. Legal troubles = what?

Also, sell Anet?

Apart from GW, I have yet to see a free MMO game that doesn't fund itself by making in-game items purchasable with real money. The two already mentioned both allow you to purchase the best items, or purchase in-game money with USD.

Edit: I meant without monthly fees, I know GW isn't free :P

Massively Multiplayer Online Cooperative Role Playing Game, GW.

ANet used a unique and daring business plan for GW, partly because too many features were missing to really charge a monthly fee. No auction house, limited storage space, no in-game mail system, etc. But they made enough to get them rolling, keep them rolling, and to develop Factions and now Nightfall. With the online store, they will have yet another stream of income to continue adding features and content.
